Voor de controller die AI verwelkomt als collega, niet als tool.

About Roamler

Roamler is a Dutch technology company that helps clients grow their business, improve end-customer experience, and reduce and flexibilise the cost of field operations. It combines actionable insights with the execution capabilities required to turn those insights into measurable results. Roamler operates through two business units:

  • Roamler Retail provides in-store and out-of-home insights and execution for FMCG brands and retailers across Europe, enabling clients to increase sales volumes while optimising operational efficiency.

  • Roamler Tech delivers installation, maintenance, and repair services for large B2C service providers, improving customer experience while increasing the efficiency and flexibility of field execution.

With approximately 130 employees and a large network of flexible workers active across multiple European markets, Roamler supports clients including Mars, Coca-Cola, Haribo, and Eneco.

Founded in Amsterdam in 2011, Roamler is backed by Endeit Capital and Smartfin, and operates across the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and Spain.

The role - and why this one is different

We are rebuilding our finance function with Claude as a real colleague. Routine work — variance analysis, scenario modelling, monthly packs, data pulls — runs through Claude Code and the Claude plugins for Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Power BI feeds the board automatically. Three months in, we already ship more than we used to — and the work isn't done.

We are not looking for another controller who lives in Excel. We need someone who sees finance through a different lens: what should a human still do, and what should an AI colleague pick up?

Where you sit

You are a peer of our Senior Administrator. They run the accounting engine, supported by a junior colleague on banks, AP and AR. You run FP&A, analytics and automation. The two of you back each other up around month-end and audit time.

You report to our Fractional Finance Manager, who reports to the CFO. Strategic direction comes from the CFO; day-to-day judgment is yours. Because our finance leadership is fractional, we expect you to think and act independently from week one. This is not a role where you wait for instructions — it's the deal: more autonomy, more influence, more ownership.

As our Controller, you’ll act as a trusted financial sparring partner for teams across the company, from Sales and Operations to Product and IT. You’ll work closely with our Finance & Control Manager and CFO to run the FP&A cycle, guide strategic decisions, and maintain financial control.

This is a broad, hands-on role with plenty of room for ownership. You'll switch between financial reporting, forecasting, scenario modeling, and advising the business with real-time insights. You enjoy variety and love simplifying complexity.

What "AI-first" actually means here today

Concrete things our team already runs through Claude (not on a roadmap — live):

  • A monthly reporting pack — analytics included — that builds itself from a single instruction ("build the report for next month"). The controller reviews and refines.

  • Multi-year investment scenario models — driver-based, with sensitivity ranges — drafted in a Claude session and refined in Excel. What used to be a two-week build is a two-day iteration.

  • Customer- and product-level GP analysis that surfaces top variance month-over-month, ready for the MT discussion before we sit down.

  • A driver-based revenue forecast that combines CRM pipeline data with seasonal patterns and known headwinds — re-runnable in minutes, not days.

  • MT- and board-level variance commentary generated end-to-end from GL movements, vendor classification and headcount data. The controller edits, doesn't draft.

  • Power BI margin and revenue dashboards that feed our MT and board reports automatically — no manual refresh, no 14-tab Excel files.

This isn't theoretical. It's how the work runs now. The next controller picks this up and runs further.

What you’ll do

  • Own the FP&A cycle: budget, forecast, reporting, variance analysis — and automate it step by step

  • Build business cases, scenario models and sensitivity analyses for investment and pricing decisions

  • Translate Sales, Operations and IT questions into numbers they can act on

  • Build data-driven insight on revenue, margin, COGS, Opex and headcount — at customer, product and channel level

  • Design and ship AI-powered workflows that replace manual work

  • Step in on accounting when needed — month-end journals, accruals, BTW reviews, payroll journal — so the accounting team has solid backup

  • Own the annual audit and compliance — efficiently, not as your main job

Day one and beyond

  • Day one. You're already working with Claude. We don't run AI training courses — you go in the deep end and learn by doing. Colleagues with hands-on Claude experience are right next to you.

  • Weeks 5–8. You're shipping your own automations. You feel the difference. You start replacing the interim manager who is bridging this seat today.

  • Beyond. The FP&A cycle is yours. Your next-quarter automation roadmap goes straight to the CFO.

Job requirements

Who are you

  • 4–8 years in FP&A, business control or a finance/data hybrid role

  • Strong scenario- and modelling skills — driver-based forecasting, sensitivity, business cases — you can build it from scratch and explain it to a non-finance audience

  • Solid hands-on Dutch GAAP accounting — month-end, BTW, journals — so you can back up the accounting team comfortably when month-end gets tight

  • Already work with Claude (Code + plugins) and Power BI as part of how you work, not as a hobby

  • Fluent in SQL, or willing to become fluent fast

  • Bachelor or Master in Finance, Accounting, Econometrics or equivalent

  • Fluent Dutch and English. Our accounting team works in Dutch and we file under Dutch GAAP and BTW; the wider business runs in English. Both are required, not optional.

  • Based in the Netherlands, in our Amsterdam office 3 days a week

Why Roamler

  • Competitive salary plus pension

  • Flexible hours, with 3 days a week at our Amsterdam office

  • Real ownership: a fractional finance leadership layer means more autonomy and more direct influence than a classic structure

  • A genuine chance to shape how a scale-up runs finance with AI as a real colleague

We want a CV. We'd love to see what you've already built with AI — a Loom, a GitHub link, the prompts you actually use. We care about what you've shipped, not how it's formatted.
